Join us for a full-day landscape painting workshop with contemporary artist Lucy Kent, set in our peaceful creative studio.
This immersive workshop offers a rare opportunity to slow down, focus deeply, and explore landscape painting in a supportive, unhurried environment. Working from our beautiful studio space, you’ll use photographs and the surrounding landscape as inspiration, learning how to translate atmosphere, light, and feeling into paint. All equipment and materials are included, and you’ll be working with water-based oil paints. The workshop is open to all abilities, including complete beginners. Lucy’s teaching style is informal, generous, and encouraging, with an emphasis on painting for enjoyment, experimentation, and discovering your own artistic voice.
The morning begins with a welcome tea and coffee, followed by a live demonstration from Lucy, sharing how she approaches the start of a painting, from selecting a composition and building a colour palette to laying down the first marks. You’ll then begin working on your own piece, drawing from various images, as you develop your painting at your own pace.
There is an extended lunch break, allowing time to truly relax and recharge. A beautiful lunch spread will be laid out for you to help yourself to, and there will be the option to swim in the heated outdoor pool (please bring your own towel if you’re not staying with us). You’re also welcome to wander the grounds, sketch outdoors, or simply enjoy the surroundings, weather permitting.
The afternoon returns to the studio for a final focused session, where you’ll refine and build on your painting with Lucy’s guidance, bringing the day’s learning together in a calm, supportive setting. You’ll leave with a finished canvas – a personal response to your inspiration and a lasting record of the day.
